Golden Turmeric Milk (Golden Milk)
A warm, soothing Ayurvedic drink that balances Vata and Kapha. Perfect for evening wind-down or post-meal digestion support.
Ingredients
- •1 cup milk (dairy, oat, or almond)
- •1 tsp fresh turmeric, grated (or ½ tsp powder)
- •½ tsp fresh ginger, grated
- •1 tbsp ghee or coconut oil
- •¼ tsp black pepper
- •Pinch of cinnamon
- •Pinch of cardamom
- •1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
In a small saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat.
Add grated turmeric, ginger, ghee, black pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom.
Whisk continuously until the milk is hot but not boiling (about 5 minutes).
Remove from heat and let steep for 2 minutes.
Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into your favourite mug.
Add honey or maple syrup if desired. Stir and enjoy warm.
This golden milk recipe is my go-to evening ritual. It's warming without being heavy, and the combination of turmeric, black pepper, and ghee makes the curcumin highly bioavailable. I've been making this for years and it's the one recipe I recommend to anyone starting their Ayurvedic journey.
